Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has publicly urged Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Cármen Lúcia to vote in favor of opening an investigation into fellow Justice Alexandre de Moraes, according to reports from Correio Braziliense and Folha de S.Paulo. The request comes amid growing tension within Brazil's top court over Moraes' conduct.
Correio Braziliense reports that Flávio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, directly appealed to Cármen Lúcia for her vote on the matter. In remarks covered by Folha de S.Paulo, the senator also suggested that Cármen Lúcia should be concerned about her own legacy when deciding how to act, implying that her position on the issue could shape how she is remembered.
The push to investigate Moraes follows a period of heightened friction inside the STF. According to Jovem Pan, political scientists say the current crisis within the court is strengthening Flávio Bolsonaro's political standing and adding momentum to rallies planned for Brazil's Independence Day on September 7.
